Round 5 of the National Championship, sponsored by Bullitt Silicone Spray, saw us back at Donington Park on 9th August. This time however, we were on the Tarmac Lake….it was huge…several competitors commented that the course walk was like a marathon. All this space meant we could have a fast and flowing course (or requiring hard acceleration and equally hard braking between obstacles, depending on your point of view!).
There were slaloms, rotations, gates, H-box and 2 jinks which incorporated rotations, to test our 27 competitors. 11 wrong courses and quite a few penalties were recorded during the first attack, so with the opportunity for another “marathon” course walk at lunch, the afternoon session saw this figure greatly reduce. In the second attack, Simon Heaton shaved 8.96 seconds off; likewise Tom Barron, 11.72 seconds.
Kristian Eekhof took first place on the podium with a time of 2:25:02, Neil Wallis-Tennant second on 2:26:20 and Andi Beazeley in third with 2:27:02. Fastest novice medals were: Gold – Kenneth van der Broek on 2:32:15, Silver – Andrew Rayfield with 2:33:34 and Bronze – John Collister on 2:40:18. Full results and championship points are below.
