We returned to Donington Park for Round 3 of the Moto Gymkhana competition series on Saturday, 28th June 2014 and were greeted with rain, rain and some more rain!
The course was fast and flowing, requiring hard braking which was impressive given the wet conditions. Our 22 competitors were tested with a set of obstacles that included a clover-leaf, spiral and quadruple jink as well as offset slaloms and plenty of rotations.
Attack 1 saw 6 wrong courses recorded and a couple of penalties picked up. Attack 2 however, provided lots of drama as it was undertaken in a torrential downpour that also took out the timing equipment, requiring the 2 riders on course to have to go round again.
The final result was tense; only 3 tenths of a second split the top two. Defending Champion, Neil Wallis-Tennant secured victory and top spot on the podium with 2:18:30. Mark Wraith came in second with 2:18:67 and Andi Beazeley in third on 2:19:02.
Fastest novice medals were – Gold, John Collister with a time of 2:30:75, Silver went to Justin Leary with 2:32:16 and a debut to the podium by Rob Smith for Bronze on 2:32:69.
Ranking points also went to Rob Fox, John Collister and Justin Leary.
