Moto Gymkhana became part of history with a great event organised by Bike 1066 and Chris Knott Insurance, held in the grounds of the De La Warr Pavilion on Bexhill seafront.
Bexhill is the birthplace of British Motorsport. Moto Gymkhana, including those who took part, are recognised by BexhillMuseum as the first official motorsport event to be held in Bexhill since 1924.
It was hot, there was a thick sea mist for a time but it didn’t deter a great show of people with the try-outs on our AJP’s getting booked up very quickly. Two of our members, Neil Wallis-Tennant and Justin Leary gave demo’s whilst our Chairman, Duncan MacKillop provided the commentary.
The evening competition saw 16 eager competitors taking part, again on the AJP’s. First place went to Roger Bond with an amazing time of 50:98 seconds; in second place was Mike Willsher on 55:78 and third place was Sam Walker with 56:42.
We also had a visit from The Bexhill Classic Cycle Club who were intrigued by Moto Gymkhana, so were given a quick briefing and then rode the course to the amusement of the crowds (and ourselves!).
