The Northern Echo Arena in Darlington hosted the MotoGymkhana Weekend on 7th and 8th June 2014.
It began with an Experience Day on the Saturday in somewhat wet conditions but that didn’t deter those signed up from having a go. All participants enjoyed their time learning the sport and having a number of attacks at the competition course. There was some good times and lots of competitive spirit that the weather couldn’t dampen. It made for some atmospheric photo opportunities too.
Sunday saw Round 2 of the Competition series take place and what a difference a day makes – dry and sunny! The course was long and narrow which provided some challenging obstacles and saw 8 wrong courses as well as a good number of penalties picked up.
The competition was fierce and Andi Beazeley, who got a wrong course in the first attack, put in an astonishing second run of 1:49:73 and took the top spot on the podium. Mark Wraith shaved 4.41 seconds off his first run which gained him second place with 1:50.66 and Neil Wallis-Tennant took third on 1:52:63.
The novice podium was equally hard fought and saw John Collister take the gold medal with a time of 1:59:89. Steve Laughton took almost 6 seconds off his second attack, earning him silver and Mario Nicou made his first appearance to the podium, taking bronze.
