2016 – Moto Gymkhana National Championship – Round 3
Round 3 of the UK Moto Gymkhana championships returned to the Launch pad area at Donington Park. Competitors were faced with a course that mixed fast and flowing with slow and tight sections. Several older obstacles making a return to the layout.
The weather man dealt a mixed and blustery bag, with rain appearing for many of the morning attacks. Strong winds cleared the rain clouds for sunny and dry second attacks after lunch.
Mark Wraith’s top podium placing proved just how well he’s jelled with the DRZ400. His afternoon time a stunning 10 seconds faster than his already respectable morning time.
Andrew Rayfield and housewives favorite Rob Fox battled it out for the remaining steps on the main podium, finishing second and third respectively.
West Midlands club head honcho Iain Suggett put together a super smooth, clean run that saw him clinch his first novice podium place (2nd) and his first ranking point towards a green bib.
Ian Ashford piloted his CBR600RR into top spot with similarly mounted Justin Leary bringing it home in 3rd place.
All competitors managed to complete at least one correct course with many making a healthy improvement on their morning times.
Special mention to newcomer Christine Fletcher who made a massive 72 second improvement.
Joanna Noble-Finch steered her Husqvarna Supermoto into the days fastest lady spot and looked set to improve her time further, but took a tumble on her second run.
Final special mention goes to Anita Clegg for successfully managing to thread her ZX6R around the course. A great achievement with dropped, clip-on style handlebars seriously hampering steering lock and trapping thumbs.
A great day of Moto Gymkhana competition finished with a BBQ to celebrate the forthcoming wedding of Andrew and Heather Rayfield. Congratulations to you both.
The next round of the UK MotoGymkhana championship returns to Donington Park on the 20th August.
There will be Camping and a BBQ the evening before on the campsite next to the Launch Pad area. Everyone welcome.
